Joey Mawson has lived and breathed motor sport from the day he was born and looks set to become Australia’s next genuine motorsport superstar.
At the age of 19, Joey won an impressive three National and State Championships solidly positioning him as Australia’s premier junior driver.
Travelling the world in his quest to be the best, Joey dominated international karting in 2011 and 2012 including the CIK-FIA Under 18 World Championship where he was the outright winner of round three of the Championship and his final ranking was fourth in the world.
In 2014 Joey made the step up to car racing in the ‘wings and slicks’ category of Formula 4 in France where he qualified on pole position and won his first race. He continued to feature in the results with a further three race wins and eight podium finishes.
In 2015 Joey joined the Van Amersfoort Racing team to compete in the new German FIA Formula 4 Championship along side teammates Mick Schumacher and Harrison Newey.
Throughout the year he recorded five race wins and finished on the podium 13 times to finish third overall in the standings.
Entering 2016, Joey was one of the favourites for the Championship and he lived up to the expectations placed on him by leading throughout the entire eight-round Championship and beating Mick Schumacher by 52 points. Throughout the year he recorded 10 race wins and finished on the podium in 16 of the 24 races contested. In the off season Joey has competed in the MRF Challenge, which he currently leads going into the final round.
In 2017 Joey is set to make the next step in his flourishing career and compete in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, continuing with Van Amersfoort Racing and with the support of the PODIUM group.
